In China, the cherry blossom is a symbol of feminine beauty. It has also come to represent the feminine principle and love. In Japan the meaning is some what different, cherry blossoms symbolize the impermanence of life. This is immediately obvious to anyone who has been in Japan in Cherry blossom season. The cherry blossom season is a short one but while it lasts there is an amazing burst of color and life.
The Japanese are predominantly Buddhist in their beliefs. Although you wouldn't think this is you were strolling around Shinjuku in Tokyo. Its only when you get outside the cities do you get a glimpse of the traditional Japan. Here the pace is slower and in many ways the people have held onto their beliefs.
